GOLDEN PHEASANT HATCHING EGGS

Golden Pheasants are a beautiful, docile and relatively tame variety of pheasant that is perfect for ornamental aviaries. Because these birds are placid and will quite easily learn to eat from the hand, they’re the perfect beginner pheasant. They will also happily live together in a group and are not aggressive towards other birds; making them the perfect companions for a mixed species aviary.

Our male golden pheasant is yet to develop into his full, stunning plumage. However, he is definitely doing the job and we have chicks on the way.

REEVE PHEASANT HATCHING EGGS

Reeves pheasants are one of the most beautiful pheasant species in my opinion. However, they are not always for the faint hearted as males can be rather aggressive, particularly during breeding season. For that reason you should not keep two males together, but favour a trio of one cock bird and two hens.

They’re stand-offish tendencies, however, are matched with absolute beauty. They are extremely hardy, living outside all year round without the need for heat. And given the right aviary size and conditions, can grow a magically long tail several feet long.

KHAKI CAMPBELL HATCHING EGGS

Khaki Campbells are the perfect ducks for you if you’re looking to get a lot eggs. Though you can grow them on for meat, I highly encourage you to keep hens simply because they lay a vast number of eggs throughout the year. In full peak you can expect your female khaki campbell ducks to be laying an egg every single day.

They’re easy to keep and very docile, meaning they don’t tend to fly off, even when kept in open air coops. I keep my group pastured inside electric fencing and have never had to clip their wings, though this is something you might want to do for peace of mind.

SILVER APPLEYARD HATCHING EGGS

Silver Appleyards are a rare breed of duck, local to Suffolk and developed by Sir Reginald Appleyard of Ixworth in the early 1900s. They are a fantastic duck, growing quite large and like many heritage breeds, being dual purpose. Though the hens do not lay as much as Khaki Campbell ducks, they still produce a large number of eggs, especially during the spring. The drakes also grow relatively quickly, so that any additional males you hatch, you can raise them for the table and have delicious homegrown duck meat.

They’re are also extremely pretty in my mind, and are too heavy to fly, making them a great duck.

IXWORTH CHICKENS HATCHING EGGS

Ducks weren’t the only breed developed by Sir Appleyard as he also developed the dual purpose Ixworth chicken. Though rather plain to the eye, I find them quite pleasing with their pristine white and then flag of bright red comb and wattles. Being a dual purpose breed, the hens do not lay as much as many hybrid varieties, but they are nicely rounded white or pinkish eggs. They grow relatively slowly but the cockerels become a good size, making them perfect for the table.

BARBU D’ANVER BELGIUM BANTAM HATCHING EGGS

Barbu D’anvers are a wonderfully sweet breed of tiny Belgium bantam that make great pets. They are extremely docile and will happily sit in your lap of on your knee. And when a cockerel inevitably gets a little feisty, he’s small enough to simply pick up and carry around with you until he’s calmed down. They make perfect pets, but not a lot else as they hardly lay and remain tiny. That being said, they are fantastic characters!
